Details for Saratoga Townhouses

Sue Ann and I met yesterday with SUNY Geneseo's new Events Coordinator, Andrea Klein, to update her on all current and ongoing plans for the SUNYLA 2006 conference. One issue focused on the plans for on-campus housing. All townhouses used for the conference will include 5 bedrooms, so gather up 4 of your most favorite library colleagues to ensure the utmost security and trust within your assigned townhouse. Remember that the bedroom doors within each townhouse do not lock. Each townhouse occupant will have their own bedroom and a key to the front door. Two flat bed sheets, a blanket, a pillow and pillow case, two bath towels, and a washcloth will be supplied for every bedroom. Townhouse rooms will cost $50 per night and they consist of three floors (1st floor has a common living room and a kitchen; 2nd and 3rd floors have bedrooms and bathrooms). There are two townhouse units that are handicapped-accessible, so if you need this extra assistance, please make sure to let us know and we will assign you accordingly. Our decisions for on-campus housing are based on guaranteed air conditioning within each unit, a hill-free walk to conference events, and of course, a more home-like atmosphere. We hope that these accommodations will provide a comfortable "home" to conference attendees in June.

Calls for participation - deadline extended

The numbers of proposals for conference sessions, pre-conference workshops, and posters look to be in good shape, but since there are only a few, precious days left until our original deadline (February 3), members of the Conference Planning Committee decided it would be worth our while to extend the deadline by another week (February 10). Please send in those proposals to make this an outstanding learning experience for all conference attendees! The Conference Planning Committee will be meeting on February 17 to make final decisions on conference presentations and develop the final schedule for sessions.

Deadline for Sylvia Chu...

Carol Ann Germain has announced that the deadline for Sylvia Chu Scholarship applications is April 10, 2006. So get your applications in! This is a wonderful opportunity for those librarians new to SUNY or even for librarians who have never attended a SUNYLA conference. Details are on the Professional Development Committee's Sylvia Chu information web page.

oops!

The correct URL for the Accommodations page is:
http://library.geneseo.edu/sunyla2006/accommodations.htm -- I originally spelled it wrong. Thanks to Kim for finding the error and letting me know. Let this be a lesson to all -- proofread, proofread, proofread!

List of accommodations now up!

Thanks to the wonderful work of Kate Pitcher, the list of lodging details and contact information is now live on the SUNYLA 2006 website. Please take a look - http://library.geneseo.edu/sunyla2006/accomodations.htm - and book your room soon!

Rooms reserved at local Quality Inn

I have recently been in touch with the General Manager of Geneseo's Quality Inn, who also takes care of blocking rooms at Mount Morris' Country Inn & Suites. There are currently 30 rooms blocked at Quality Inn and 20 blocked at Country Inn & Suites. The location of the Quality Inn will prove to be very convenient for Geneseo visitors, situated only a mile from campus, and the entire hotel has been renovated in the past year, offering a modern, updated, and comfortable stay. Those interested in reserving a room at either hotel can specifically request the SUNYLA conference rate when booking.

Additional details on local accommodations, including the townhouses at Geneseo, will soon be attached to the SUNYLA 2006 website. I have been calling around to secure discounted rates for conference attendees, where possible.
