Townhouses

It's official -- conference attendees will be housed in the Saratoga Terrace Townhouses! The cost will be $55 per person, but we will probably dip into conference income so conference attendees will pay less. The catch is that these are truly townhouses in that they do not have locks on bedroom doors. There's a key to the front door and then a kitchen, living room, 2 bathrooms, and 4 or 5 bedrooms. We will have to coordinate so everyone is sharing with librarians they know/trust.

One more decision made!

Dessert reception at UB's library school

I just heard from Lisa Forrest and here's what she had to say about December 8's dessert reception/recruitment efforts at UB's library school:

"Hi all! We just wanted to give you an update of the dessert/tea that we hosted on December 8 at UB. Our table looked beautiful-a smorgasbord of delicious desserts and SUNYLA information! Unfortunately, attendance left a bit to be desired . . . we had about 9 students show up (yes, Dawn & I were a bit full of cookies at the end of the day!). However, the day was not a total wash! One student seemed very interested in presenting a poster . . . and the rest politely listened to our enthusiastic promotion of the conference. Also, we had a good opportunity to speak face to face with the chair of the department, and a couple of faculty members - who seemed eager to distribute the information on the conference, poster sessions, and scholarships. We will continue our promotion through the listserv and distribution of paper flyers . . . and a trip to Syracuse is still being considered! Thanks again for all of your support! Cookies, anyone? Lisa & Dawn"

Other accommodation details

If you have looked at the conference site lately, you'll see that many links are being added as far as where to stay next June and what activities you could possibly do while visiting the Genesee Valley. We, at SUNY Geneseo, really hope that conference attendees will be coming to our corner of the state for more than just the conference. Feel free to arrive early or stay over the weekend to enjoy all of the many activities and beautiful landscapes that our area has to offer.

I am currently working on an easy-to-read list of lodging options (other than on-campus accommodations) that will help attendees know the distance from campus and the prices of rooms of particular hotels/B&B's. Hopefully, this will make your trip-planning a little more hassle-free.

New Events Coordinator!

I just heard that Geneseo has finally hired a new Events Coordinator. The position has been open since mid-summer, and the person who's been "filling in" is leaving as of next week, so I am very relieved to have a permanent person on campus to help us with this conference! Of course, the new person, whose name is Andrea Klein, will be learning the ropes, so our SUNYLA conference will be a test run for her.

The next big news I am waiting on is whether the campus will let us use the "Townhouses" to house conference attendees. The townhouses are only 2 years old, quite lovely, and air conditioned! (No other residence hall on campus is air conditioned.) The college has never let any conference use the Townhouses, but after all, how much damage could a bunch of librarians do? ;-)

Associate Provost to take SUNY Geneseo's Provost's place

This just in . . .

Due to a previous engagement, Provost Conway-Turner will be unable to provide a luncheon address on Thursday, June 15. Instead, Associate Provost, Dave Gordon, will say a few words to conference attendees at our Thursday luncheon.
